I’d like to extend the opportunity to participate as race committee to everyone if you don’t already have an offer to crew. We need 6 volunteers for Friday and 8 for Sat and Sun. The jobs include running the start line, calling the finish line, and being race support on one of our two runabouts. You can volunteer for 1, 2 or 3 days of help. Don’t worry if you haven’t done it before…we’ll teach you everything you need to know!
Friday, racing starts at 11:30 am. I would like anyone who wants to help to meet me near the “big tent” (you can’t miss it) at Lake Pleasant. You will need to arrive around 8:00am planning to leave the dock NLT 10:00.
Saturday, racing starts at 11:30 so same schedule (again with time to make assignments and do a little training). Sunday Racing starts at 9:00 so please plan on arriving around 6:45am and getting off the dock by 7:00.

The annual New Year’s Day cruise to Cole’s Wash buoy for lunch is ON! Join us New Year’s day – about lunch time for a raft up at the buoy to share company and good eats. Bring lunch for yourself, and some to share.

All these many years my “Pop” (90) has had another love in his life besides my mother; it’s his love of…the sea. A while back I wrote a song with him in mind. Now, with the internet, there are pictures with the words. It’s titled, “The Call of the Sea” and, since you have the same “calling,” I thought you might like to see it. I’d be honored if you did.

The closest hotel to Lake Pleasant is the Hampton Inn in Anthem and they have offered entrant a discounted room rate here.
Slips are available for $20.00 per night at Pleasant Harbor Marina at 602 912 1664 if you mention that you are with the Arizona Yacht Club.
Also, if you mention the Arizona Yacht Club to RV Rental Outlet, they can bring up a motor home and set it up for you at the lake for you weekend. Their number is 888 461 0023. You will also have to let Pleasant Harbor know so you can get a camp site.
If you want, tent and car camping is available for the price of admission to the park, but if you pitch your tent on a lawn, get ready for the sprinklers!

Tiz the season for that favorite of AYC gatherins, the Buccaneer Gift Exchange! This Tuesday eve bring ye bootie to the 19th Tee and prepare for a wild evening. Ye must bring bootie to get bootie, for that be part of the code. When you get called to the deck choose wisely, for if yer bootie be too prized, she may get pirated! But pirated only twice says I, then the prize must lay where she rests. Don’t miss out mate! A jolly time will be had by all.
Gary Jobson and the Carolina Yacht Club hosted 80 sailors and their guests – including two AYC Buccaneer sailors (Chris Robertson and Emory Heisler) for the “Sail with Jobson – Fantasy Sail Weekend” December 3-5, 2010.
Not to miss an opportunity to sail, Emory showed up a day early to sail with his Buccaneer skipper from 2010 Buccaneer North American Championships (BNAC) Captain Ray Dunn who also just happens to live in the Charleston area – proof once again that if you know a Buccaneer, you probably know someone in just about any port in the country! Arrrrr!
Along with an afternoon of sailing with Gary Jobson hopping from boat to boat, the weekend included many reminders about the Leukemia Cup Regattas, the Leukemia Lymphoma Society, and their shared mission to cure blood cancers. Attendees included at least half-a-dozen blood cancer survivors, but also was missing several participants from previous years that were not so fortunate to have the cure they needed for their version of the disease.
Get your fund raising “hat” on for the AZ Leukemia Cup Regatta and next year you might be sailing with Gary Jobson in NEW YORK CITY!
Several of you have asked me about how Facebook works or how to get information sent to you from the website, so I thought I would do a piece on some of the new features of the site, many of which are why we moved to the new format in the first place.
First off, the simplest way to get information sent to you from the website is right at the top where is says “Subscribe to the Feed Via Email.” This simply emails you anytime anyone posts a new article to the website.
Speaking of that, who can write articles? Well, anyone can write an article and send it to me and I’ll get it posted. The longer answer is that members of the board have access and can write and publish directly to the site. ANYONE can comment on an article. If you see an article on the front page of the website you can click it to read the rest of the story. If you have an opinion or a comment, there is an opportunity to leave your thoughts at the bottom of each page. You have to leave us some information and your comment has to be approved (just to make sure random people don’t send in bogus spam) but that happens pretty quickly. This is not meant to replace the Yahoo group, just another opportunity to have a discussion.
We also have a page to submit photos for us to use. This is a great, easy way to get published on the site. I’m going to make every attempt to use the photos in articles. On the form there is an opportunity to tell us the story behind it, if there is any…
So then we get to the social media stuff. By far, the most popular place for social media is Facebook. First thing you’ll need is an account. They are free and you can use it to keep up with all your friends as well as the AYC. Just go to the Facebook homepage and sign up. If you’ve never used Facebook, here is a short video on how to sign up for an account and find and become a fan of the AYC Fan Page.
Now that you have a Facebook account, you can search for the Arizona Yacht Club page using the search bar at the top or you can go directly to www.Facebook.com/arizonayachtclub. Once you are there, you should see something that says “Like” this. It should look like this:
Alternatively, you can open our website www.arizonayachtclub.org and go to to the box on the lower right side and “like” the page there. Once you do that, you will receive status updates to your Facebook homepage. I’ve set it up so that any NEW post also shows up on the Facebook page.
So, the last thing you can do is to “Follow” @AZYTCLB on Twitter.com. Again, you’ll need a Twitter.com account and all you have to do is search for us. Here is our Twitter Page: http://twitter.com/azytclb

Don’t miss the first major AZ Regatta of 2011! It’s time to get ready for the Arizona Yacht Club Birthday Regatta and the 12th Annual Arizona Leukemia Cup – the first Leukemia Cup Regatta of 2011 January 14th through the 16th, 2011.
AYC and the Desert Mountain Chapter of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society invite you to join in for a full range of on-water and on-shore fun. Activities will include three days of racing Friday through Sunday with meals, entertainment and a special dinner Saturday. Our keynote speaker Saturday night will be Paralympic GOLD MEDAL WINNER and newly elected U S Sailing Board of Directors Member, Maureen McKinnon-Tucker in addition to our outstanding special auction to benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
Racing will be from Friday through Sunday (Friday optional, each class will determine two or three days of racing), with the Leukemia Cup being held on Saturday.
Don’t miss Friday night’s dinner. It is being prepared by the legendary culinary skill of our current Club Champion, Rick Johnson.
Our race committee will have a special look this year too! Andrea Caroe from Mission Bay Yacht Club in San Diego will be our PRO! Many of the Buccaneer and 14.2 sailors will remember her Pink RC flag from their events held at MYC.
