This January, you and your family and friends can make a commitment to wipe blood cancers out of our lives, by joining the Arizona Yacht Club for the nation’s first 2012 Leukemia Cup Regatta. Sail with 70 other boats on Lake Pleasant (45 minutes north of Phoenix) between the Saguaro and Ocotillo, with views of the Cholla and Black Mountains, near Buzzard Neck and Humbug Bay. It’s one heck of a party – all for a good cause.
Expected Classes: Portsmouth, Thistle, Buccaneer, Catalina 22, Viper 640, J/80, Merit 25, and PHRF spin and non-spin. Pirates will be limited to the Buccaneer class.
THANKS TO PEOPLE LIKE YOU some amazing advancements have been announced in the past year. Some of the most interesting are the DNA based “Targeted Therapies” rather than “broad spectrum” chemotherapies, and using patients OWN BLOOD CELLS to specifically fight ONLY the cancerous cells –(see video and text from CBS News).
Thank you for your support to help rid the world of blood cancers!
About The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is the world’s largest voluntary health organization dedicated to funding blood cancer research and providing education and patient services. The mission of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families.
The Leukemia Cup Regatta is a series of sailing events to benefit The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. The Leukemia Cup Regatta is chaired by America’s Cup winner and ESPN commentator Gary Jobson, who is a lymphoma survivor. The Leukemia Cup series honors more than 957,902 Americans who are battling blood cancers such as leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma. These people are the real heroes and we need your support to help accelerate cures and provide hope and support for patients and their families.
Did you know that:
- Every four minutes, someone in this country is diagnosed with blood cancer.
- Every ten minutes, someone dies from these cancers.
- Leukemia causes more deaths than any other cancer among people under age 20.
- Lymphomas are the most common blood cancers
- The myeloma survival rate is only 34 percent.
