It’s hot here. Very hot. It’s just a fact of life living in the Valley of the Sun. But the good news is our valley is, in fact, surrounded by mountains, which means that cooler climes are just a few hours’ drive away. Which is why AYC escapes every summer to the mountains near Flagstaff for our annual Summer Campout!
The campout was started in 1983, and has evolved over the years, changing locations and dates a few times. This year we are returning to Dairy Springs Campground near Mormon Lake, July 31 – August 2nd. We have both group sites reserved, with room for 16 vehicles (only $25 for two nights!). We almost filled up last year, so make sure to reserve your spot by registering here:
Bring the kids! Bring the dogs! We’ll have games (and prizes) for kids and adults alike. Saturday morning the Grijalvas will set up their famous Bloody Mary bar. Then there will be time for hiking, biking, boating at Lake Mary, reading, games, or napping. Or all of the above if you’re efficient – but why would you be – that’s not the point of camping! The point is cool relaxation with your family and friends.

Whichever activity you choose, make sure to be back Saturday night for our Salsa and Sangria contest, along with our potluck dinner. But make sure to leave room for S’mores! (Yes, it’ll actually be cold enough to want to be by a fire.)
Not a fan of camping? Come join us just for the day on Saturday, or stay at the nearby Mormon Lake Lodge. If you aren’t camping, go ahead and register as a day-tripper (for free) so we know you’re coming.
More info, including the history of our campout, can be found on the Summer Campout page. Questions? Contact Joanne Aspinall.
Hope to see you there – and don’t forget to pack a jacket!!
