We all know that Arizona is recognized for its “Five C’s” but did you know that sailboat racing has its own Five C’s? They are Competition, Cooperation, Courtesy, Community, and Corinthian Spirit.
Sailboat racing is a competitive sport. We adhere to the Racing Rules of Sailing on the water but also depend on a Corinthian spirit, the one that self-governs. Sailing is a cooperative sport that relies on its community of sailors to show up and race against us. Courtesy matters just as much; a moment of anger on the water can discourage someone from continuing in the sport far more quickly than a lack of wind ever could.
With your AYC member nomination, please provide a brief story about the nominee, including an example or two of them in action, and why you think they deserve this recognition.
