No, we still can’t meet in person, but let’s get together for a virtual meeting on Zoom.
On our regular Tuesday night, April 14, at 7pm, we’ll offer a special social distancing online meeting with sailing champion, coach, and teacher Rod Favela.
You’ve seen it: the number of boats turning out for AYC racing events doesn’t reflect the strength of our membership. At a time when we have over 250 member families, an all-time high, the number of boats competing is relatively small.
How do we get more of us on the water?
Rod Favela races and presents North U educational programs all over the country, so he has a chance to sample how other clubs are confronting the national issue of diminishing participation. We’ll tap into Rod’s enthusiasm for the sport and hear his ideas for spreading that excitement.
Rod’s won championships on everything from Sunfish to VX-1 to the Champion of Champions regatta. He runs Vela Sailing Supply out of the Dallas area. He spoke to the club in 2014 and he was my coach at the North U Performance Sailing School—you can read about that here.
We’ll hold a 30-minute interactive event, presented online using the Zoom system, but you can listen in using something as simple as POTS (plain old telephone) if you wish. Zoom is pretty simple to use and it doesn’t require an account or special software.
