As members of the Arizona Yacht Club (“AYC “or “the Club”), we are committed to creating a community for all sailors. This Code of Conduct outlines the expectations for behavior that reflect our shared values and respect for one another, whether at club events, on the water, or when representing the club.
Within this Code of Conduct, the term “Member” includes all members, guests, and volunteers of the Arizona Yacht Club.
1. Shared Commitment
AYC holds the authority to enforce this Code of Conduct, with the goal of fostering a positive environment for all members. Every member has a responsibility to foster a sailing community which supports the Corinthian values of integrity, fairness, loyalty, behavior and sovereignty of the individual.
2. Safety First
All club members are strongly advised to have and wear life vests while on the water, ensuring the safety of every sailor. Safety is our top priority.
3. Inclusivity & Welcoming Spirit
We commit to welcoming new members regardless of their gender, background, or level of sailing experience. Our goal is to include all and provide a sense of belonging.
4. Sportsmanship
Club members are expected to demonstrate sportsmanship in races and other competitive events, adhering to the rules and race notices. Engaging in confrontations with volunteers, race officials or aggressive behavior toward fellow sailors is strictly prohibited. Disputes should be resolved respectfully and in accordance with established race procedures.
5. Mutual Respect & Personal Boundaries
Club members are expected to treat others with respect, whether within the club or while representing the club at events, regattas, or using reciprocal privileges. Inappropriate remarks, unwanted physical contact, and derogatory comments about members or their partners will not be tolerated. Mutual respect is a core value of our community.
6. Language
Our club should be a place where all members feel comfortable, regardless of personal beliefs. Members must refrain from using obscene language or gestures, or other defamatory, demeaning or threatening language (oral or written) or conduct directed towards any member or guest. Members are to represent the club respectfully on social media and share positive experiences that build our community.
7. Supportive Environment for Learning & Growth
We encourage a learning environment where new sailors can grow their skills. Experienced sailors are encouraged to mentor new members, promoting growth and camaraderie. We know that the future of sailing requires welcoming and encouraging all those interested in learning about and participating in sailing regardless of skill level.
8. AYC incorporates and follows the United States Sailing Association’s Statement of Ethics and Code of Conduct.
