Adult Sailing: What’s Next?

Once you’ve taken the ASF Adult Beginning Sailing Course, what’s the next step? How about learning more in bigger boats on bigger water? ASF and AYC have linked up with several quality sailing education programs that will put you on track to sail anywhere in the world.

Contact any of these clubs or schools and tell them you want to take advantage of the Arizona Sailing Foundation and Arizona Yacht Club connection.

Arizona Yacht Club: AYC wants to help you continue your sailing journey by sharing our educational, social, racing and cruising resources with you, your friends, and families. Please join us at one of our monthly meetings on the second Tuesday of every month.

Learn more about the Arizona Yacht Club here and sign up to be crew with other sailors at the AYC Crew Connections page here.

Southwest Sailing: Provides classes from basic to advanced to build your skills and confidence. SW Sailing offers ASA classes from Basic Keelboat (101) all the way through Advanced Cruising (106) and also offers all levels of NauticEd certifications. Group and private classes are taught at Lake Pleasant or aboard SV Jasmine in Southern California. Instructors Emory Heisler and Rob Gibbs are both AYC members, USCG licensed captains and certified instructors with ASA and NauticEd. Contact SWsailing for 10% off NauticEd online education courses.

The Sailboat Shop has served Arizona sailors since 1988. Operating from Scorpion Bay Marina at Lake Pleasant, they offer several of the ASA sailing certifications. Visit the “Lessons” page of their website for more information and the schedule. And several of the certified instructors are also members of the Arizona Yacht Club.

As an ASF graduate, if you join AYC and graduate from a Sailboat Shop’s ASA course, they will offer 30% off on weekday rental of a Catalina 25 sailboat. Once you’ve been checked out on the Catalina 25 or Catalina 270, you can make reservations for rentals online through the website.

Tumbleweed Sailing (Lake Pleasant): Owner and AYC member Bruce Andress offers a Sail Away program that provides nearly unlimited sailing for a full year on Catalina 25 fin keelboats.

Marina Sailing: (So.Cal.): Marina Sailing boasts six fleets of boats spread from San Diego up to Oxnard, CA. AYC members may be eligible for out-of-state membership discounts. Make sure to mention that you are from out of state for potential discounts.

Harbor Sailboats (So.Cal.): Harbor Sailboats in San Diego also offers a membership program that includes ASA 101 instruction. Make sure to mention that you are out of state for potential discounts.
