Sailing is an excellent sport for kids as it helps build confidence, independence, self-reliance, and perseverance. It’s also a bunch of FUN! And fun is the primary focus of the Junior Fleet.
You can race any boat you want! The Adopt-A-Boat program has Optimist, O’Pen Bic, and Lasers for Juniors to borrow. We are a mixed fleet and use the Portsmouth Yardstick scoring unless we all happen to be in the same One Design class boats.
For optimal performance and learning, Juniors are encouraged to be in the right boat for their size and weight. We also offer Fleet sponsored clinics and educational opportunities when we can.
Joining the Junior Fleet provides an opportunity separate from the Arizona Sailing Foundation classes and gives the kids more time on the water!
