February Meeting – America’s Cup: An Insider Update

By Bob Naylor, Rear Commodore

And then it was over, almost before it began. For the first time in 14 years, the US will not be competing for the Americas Cup. The US team, American Magic, and our foiling AC75 sailboat, PATRIOT, suffered a damaging capsize, and was quickly repaired through an all-hands-on-deck effort, only to be eliminated in the qualifiers 4-0. What really happened down under?

Join professional sailing TV commentator and former America’s Cup team member, Tucker Thompson, for an in-depth look at the 36th Americas Cup, team American Magic, and an update on the competition between the other teams. Tucker will provide an insider’s view to the history of the Cup and to the evolution of the AC-75 boats, the people, training, competition, and technologies that went into the US’s challenger. What went wrong for the US and who will compete for the next Cup? Join this meeting to find out.
