John Jourdane: The 2019 & 2020 TransPac Races

Author and offshore sailor John Jourdane returns as AYC’s guest speaker for our October monthly meeting.  John has completed over 15 TransPac races, and will discuss the 2019 and 2021 TransPacs.

The TransPac is one of yachting’s premier offshore races, attracting competitors from around the world, and spanning more than 2000-miles from San Pedro, CA, to Diamond Head, HI. In 2008, it was the subject of the documentary film “Morning Light” (Disney).  The 2019 TransPac saw more than 90-boats start the race and witnessed the first sinking (S/V OEX) in the race’s history, which covers more than a century. John will round-out his discussion of the 2021 TransPac with a review of his post-race delivery of “Good Energy”, a Reichel Pugh 63.

About John Jourdane:

The City of Tempe is permitting AYC to use The Grill for our monthly meetings. Our usage is after their normal operating hours, which means that we’ll have the facility to ourselves, and that Tempe will incur added labor costs for providing after-hours kitchen and wait staff. As part of our arrangement, they ask that we generously support their staff with food and beverage orders to defray labor costs.

PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING:

  • Entrance: The Rolling Hills Golf Course will be CLOSED for fall over-seeding and the main entrance to The Grill will be gated. Please enter through the SOUTH entrance (right side of the building as viewed from the parking lot).
  • MASKS REQUIRED: The City of Tempe has implemented a mask requirement effective July 30 for all patrons and employees at indoor city-run facilities. Masks may be lowered when eating and drinking; but, should be properly worn at all other times. For more information, go here: City of Tempe – masks.
