Fireballs are coming to Arizona!!!

Written and photos provided by AYC member Clay Poulson

From April 17-19, Fireballs will be seen streaking and flashing across Lake Pleasant!

The Fireball is a two person, high performance dinghy like you have never sailed before. They are slightly overpowered, which is countered by the crew hanging in a trapeze. Fireballs drive like a sports car. The boat is sensitive to every move of the rudder by the helm. Pure sailing pleasure, but barely on the edge. Make a mistake, and they will flip over. Then you easily right them back up and take off again.

We are expecting a full fleet of Fireballs for the weekend of April 17-19 at Lake Pleasant. We will be setting up and sailing off the west side of the lake at the ten lane boat ramp. The fleet will be racing with the AYC on Saturday and Sunday. Friday will be a set up, practice, and play day. Absolutely anyone can come out Friday and take a sail on a Fireball. Come see what it feels like to drive a sports car or just hang out over the water in the trapeze.

One sail on a Fireball, and you will want to go streak across the lake again!

If you want to come out April 17-19, contact Clay Poulson through our Contact Page for the details. More information about the Fireball can be found on the Fireball International website or the Fireball USA Facebook page.

[Note from webmaster Joanne: I plan to give a Fireball a go on the 17th – hope you can join us!]
