AYC Wednesday Evening Fun Sails: Come to the Canyon!

We’re excited to share a new event with you! Wednesday Evening Fun Sails at Spring Canyon!

As you know, AYC made great progress last year by leasing a piece of land in Pleasant Harbor’s Spring Canyon. This has given our club a fantastic spot at Lake Pleasant. It’s become a wonderful asset, especially since it’s already been the focal point for many activities this past year. Plus, it’s a safe and easy place to launch dinghies, away from the busy boat ramps. Now, we have a new opportunity to host Wednesday Evening Fun Sails (WEFS) this summer!

Starting next Wednesday evening, June 24th, and running until we get back to our regular racing in September, AYC will be hosting WEFS at our Spring Canyon Activity Area. Here’s how it works:

• AYC members can sign up for the summer WEFS through our WildApricot event system for a nominal fee. This helps us know who’s coming and how many people we can expect.
• Each week, AYC members may also:
• Register to bring guests—again, registration helps us keep track of everyone.
• Register to use club dinghies for the evening—we have a few Sunfish, Lasers, and small sloops available.
• Come to Spring Canyon after 4 p.m., check in with the evening’s designated Fun Sail Captain, and get wet! Bring your own boat and enjoy sailing with other AYC members, or join in on beer-can racing (no scoring, no fleets—just pure fun!). The goal is to have a blast on the water, so feel free to bring your paddle boards, canoes, kayaks, or small sailboats! Bring a beverage to enjoy with friends, hang out with others after sailing, and stay until 9 p.m. or so, when the Fun Sail Captain secures the site for the night.

Our first WEFS on June 24th is open to everyone, whether you’re a member or not. No need to register—the first one is wide-open! We’ll have some club dinghies available for you to use on a first-come, first-served basis. If you have questions, please email the Fun Sail Captains at fun.sail.captain@arizonayachtclub.org. Registration links for the summer program will be communicated in the coming days.

We know this is new, and how popular it becomes will depend, to some extent, on the summer weather. But we’ve heard lots of people are excited to give it a try and see what happens! Hope to see you at the Canyon.

Note: Getting to Lake Pleasant on a weekday afternoon or evening is likely a real stretch for some members, depending on work schedules, locations, and commutes. Keep in mind that there is also informal “heat stroke series” sailing available at Tempe Town Lake, also on Wednesday evenings. That sailing is NOT AYC sponsored; but still fun and a good option for many. For more information on the informal TTL Heat Stroke Series:
