The sun was hot, the water cool, and the breeze fresh from the west, making for a fitting finish to the Tempe Town Lake Spring 2022 Racing Season May 1.
With Laser fleet members serving on the Race Committee, five Sunfish, two juniors and Emory Heisler’s lone Buccaneer 18 racing Portsmouth were on the starting line Sunday afternoon. With relatively constant (for TTL) winds from the west and southwest in the low- to mid-teens and the occasional gust in the high teens to low 20s keeping things interesting, the racing was fast and furious.

In the Sunfish class, Jen Lee and Randy Adolphs battled for the lead throughout the day, with Jen scoring two first and two seconds. Randy scored two firsts and a second before being edged out for second place by Jose Vicente in the fourth race with a margin of less than a second! Juniors Myles Danner and Ryan Zornik bravely battled the breeze in their Laser 4.7s, learning the value of hiking hard! Emory and crew Aaron Rodriguez sailed two leisurely races before calling it a day. Aaron was seen bailing the Bucc on several occasions.

The fall season begins in September, giving AYC skippers plenty of time to tune-up, bulk-up, and slim down — whatever their priority may be — over the summer. The starting line awaits.
