The cruising fleet caps off its summer/fall season with another Long Beach to Catalina Island trip making this the fourth charter in the “Cruise to Catalina” series.
While each trip provided unique challenges and dynamics, including the typical or not-so-typical boat issues and a lack of predicted winds, I’m confident the weekend-long experience has left lasting memories for those who came aboard as part of the adventure.

We experienced pods of leaping porpoises and birds galore, fish beside and under the boat; taxiing aboard the Cyclone to the fun city of Avalon; paddling dinghies, kayaks, and SUPs; swimming, snorkeling, hiking, and sunbathing. Once we were safely settled on our mooring ball, there were refreshing drinks at either the local bar or aboard, wonderful shore dinners, perfect sunsets, and cool breezes.
I want to take this opportunity to thank all who came along and helped us kick-start this series. The cruises will resume in March of 2023, and I encourage all who are interested in joining us for a great adventure to one of California’s most popular cruising destinations – Catalina Island.
I’ve been developing “Tier 3 Trips” which involve having a valid passport for offerings to the BVI’s and other locations. These will be slated along with the resumption of the Cruise to Catalina trips in the spring. I look forward to presenting some nice trip itineraries and destinations for those who like a more relaxed sailing adventure that only cruising can offer.
Yours in sailing,
Joe Motil
