Those air conditioners seem like they never shut off. Triple-digit temperatures day in and day out. Everyone’s talking about the heat, monsoons, non-soons, wildfires, drought. Summertime in Arizona.
As always, AYC on-the-water racing and cruising events are paused until September. But, that doesn’t mean AYC sailors aren’t sailing. The informal (not AYC sponsored) Wednesday / Thursday evening “Heat Stroke Series” turns out a hearty cadre of Lasers, Sunfish, and C-14.2s most weeks at Tempe Town Lake (TTL). Other AYC sailors gas-up and head out of town for sailing adventures in cooler climates – San Diego, Long Beach, the Pacific Northwest, Alaska, Minnesota, Michigan, the Great Lakes, the east coast. If you’re sailing this summer – and we hope you are – whether splashing a Sunfish or Laser at TTL to catch those great evening sunsets, or enjoying a swim-day aboard your keelboat at Lake Pleasant, or cruising in far-away, beautiful, exotic, places, send us a “post card”! We want your best sailing photos! Send us snapshots from your summer sailing adventures. Frame it – sailboats, water, smiles, sunsets, sunrises, that AYC burgee smartly snapping in the breeze – click-it, and send it. Give us a nice caption to go with the photo. We’ll regularly feature your summer photos on our website throughout the summer. Then, at our September meeting, we’ll vote on the top-3 photos. Winners will receive West Marine gift cards: 1st place – $125, 2nd place – $75, and 3rd place – $50.
The fine print … You must be an AYC member to participate. No more than five (5) submittals per member. Photos should show sailing activities between June 1 and August 31, 2021. To avoid announcing to the world that members are sailing out-of-town and far-away, and to minimize any unintentional voting bias, photos shared on our website will NOT be accredited. By submitting any photo, you give AYC the right to use, reproduce, and distribute the photo. By submitting any photo, you agree that you are giving us licence to use it even if unaccredited. A group of member volunteers may be enlisted to take a first-cut and select the “Top-10” photos to be voted on at our September meeting.
