Christening of anemoNe

From Dave and Wendy:
After almost 9 years of hard work, too many sweaty days to count, and endless sanding, our new boat, a trawler, is ready for her official christening. Sea trials have already begun at Lake Pleasant. We are so grateful for both the moral and physical support we have had from so many friends in the AYC throughout the boat building process.
Anemone is a 28-foot trawler, designed by Mark Smaalders. She is built of plywood and epoxy, with a fiberglass finish on the hull for abrasion protection. The build began with purchasing the boat plans from Mark. After making some minor adjustments to the inside configuration, we picked up the marine plywood for the build in Los Angeles. Most of the building took place in our garage and front bedroom (the wall between them came down for this – it wasn’t a load-bearing wall).
Three years ago, the hull was finished and we had a party to flip the hull over onto the trailer Dave built for her, so work on the interior could begin. Dave spent many of his days off from work, and many more days after retirement, working on her. Wendy did some of the painting and most of the varnishing. We did not keep track of the hours it took – she’s a labor of love. About six months ago, we moved her out of the garage and over to a friend’s large backyard workspace to finish up her cabin top. In July, she moved up to Lake Pleasant.
We are taking Anemone out on the lake on opening day at LP. We will launch her about noon (to avoid the racers who are getting out to the course). We invite racers and RC members, and others who might like to come out to look her over, to celebrate with us at the social event after racing is over. We hope to find a space near the north ramp near Spring Canyon in the afternoon/evening for the official christening. Those who would like to have a closer look can climb aboard then. For those interested in seeing the interior, ladder climbing is necessary and people may do so at their own risk.
We are excited to share our special day and new boat with all our friends and fellow members of the Arizona Yacht Club!
