By Emory Heisler, President of ASF
It’s the end of an era—for now. After over twenty years of successfully providing Arizona Sailing Foundation (ASF) sailing classes, we’ve made the tough decision to put our ASF classes on hold until Spring 2026.
The reason is simple, but significant: we don’t have enough volunteer leaders available to run the classes.

We know this is disappointing news, and we feel the same way. ASF classes have always been about more than just learning to sail—they’ve been a chance to share the joy of sailing, to connect with others on the water, and to pass along skills that last a lifetime. And that spirit isn’t going away.
While classes are on hiatus, we’ll keep looking for ways to bring other sailing opportunities to the calendar as volunteers become available. Whether that means shorter “Discover Sailing Days”, or casual sailing experiences, our goal is to continue offering sailing opportunities wherever we can. And, of course, we hope to bring back a full season of classes in the Spring of 2026.
This is where you can make a difference. ASF has always been powered by volunteers, and right now, we need new leaders to step up. If you have the time, energy, and passion to help plan and run sailing events, we’d love to have you join the team.
If you’re interested in helping, please reach out to us so we can discuss where you see yourself as a volunteer with ASF – arizonasailingfoundation@gmail.com.
We are grateful to everyone who has been part of ASF’s journey—students, instructors, volunteers, and supporters. You’ve helped build something really special, and while this pause is a setback, it’s not the end.
With renewed leadership and your involvement, we look forward to setting sail again soon!
Feel free to share this message with friends or fellow sailors who might want to volunteer—it could help bring sailing classes back even sooner.
