The nonprofit Arizona Sailing Foundation offers sailing classes for high school students throughout the school year. Slam those school books closed and head for the lake! Spend Tuesday afternoons blasting around the lake and racing around the buoys!
spring 2023 Classes
- Every Tuesday, January 10 through April 25.
- 4pm – 6:30pm (or dark)
- Meet at the Tempe Town Lake grassy knoll (map).
Learn to Sail – Build Skills and Confidence. Each session begins with a short on-shore discussion followed by plenty of on-the-water-training.
If you know how to sail, we’ll help you learn to sail faster and coach you on how to win sailboat races. If you don’t know how to sail, we’ll bring you up to speed. Along the way you’ll learn about boat handling, safety, right-of-way, and docking. Mostly you’ll have a good time on the water.
High School and Junior High School Students are Welcome:
High School Sailing includes both Junior and Senior High School students from any school. In fact, Instructor Mike Parker says anyone from sixth grade through 12th is welcome.
Cost: $225. Maximum class size = 20. Students provide their own PFDs.
Boats: ASF supplies the boats and US Sailing certified instructors. You bring a PFD (personal flotation device) and a smile.
