Periodically, the nonprofit Arizona Sailing Foundation offers a US Sailing Safe Powerboat Handling course in partnership with Arizona Yacht Club.
Learn Valuable High and Low Speed Skills.
This two-day, hands-on, on-the-water course is for anyone who wants to learn how to safely operate a small motorboat and improve boat-handling skills. No previous experience is required!
CLASS SCHEDULE and FEES: Not scheduled at this time. See Powerboat Operators for TTL & LP on this page for more information.
The US Coast Guard and the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA) have approved this course and an increasing number of states have recognized it as meeting their requirements for a State Boating Education Certificate. In addition, the Arizona Yacht Club requires ALL operators of AYC powerboats to be certified by this course.
The course is taught by US Sailing certified powerboat instructors and includes the safety, rescue and support endorsement for anyone using powerboats to perform safety and rescue functions, such as sailing instructors, coaches, regatta personnel, marine patrols, police and fire rescue personnel, and park rangers—as well as people who want to be certified as operators of race support boats.
